Barley farming practices in Canada offer incredible duck hunting opportunities. The barley is cut then laid into swaths to allow drying. With the heads still on the plant, ducks tend to quickly find it and take advantage of the easy food source. If a hunter can happen to find one of these fields, the hunt can be incredible.
We were lucky to find a swathed barley field while in Alberta. A last light scout and permission gained led us to an early morning setting up in a field that was dotted with small ponds. The swaths made for an easy hide and a plethora of food for thousands of ducks. It's was a hunt that will not soon be forgotten!
