Nearing the end of their Guatemala expedition, the team has one final (and impatiently awaited) location- the driest region in all of Central America, Motagua Valley. The valley resembles the boys' home, Arizona in uncanny ways- though it's uniqueness is unmatched.
The dry, shrubby hillsides are home to one of the planet's most critically endangered endemic species, the venomous Guatemalan Beaded Lizard. The group stays on a reserve (Reserva Natural Heloderma) in the last remaining fragments of the valley's ecosystem, and catch an incredible opportunity to see the lizards up close and help in the vital process of rewilding them in hopes that the population may stabilize.
They're also searching for a lifelong dream, the Central American Rattlesnake. The snake is almost more of a dragonesque creature than our lizard friends, and certainly a more imposing one.
The team expects hunting the rattlesnakes down to become a major struggle; yet they discover that despite massive habitat degradation and human impact, the valley is far more dense in reptilian concentration than anyone had anticipated.
There is still so much left to see- and save.
