Wildlife Photographer and Filmmaker Ian Breland is back in a remote region of the Ecuadorian Amazon- situated between the lower-altitude Amazon Basin and the snowy, towering peaks of the Andes. Ian and the professionals he's with are in search of rare, undescribed, and iconic reptile & amphibian species; many of which are found nowhere else on Earth.
This time though, they're searching specifically for some incredible frog, toad, and salamander species. What they uncover is nothing short of mesmerizing.
Despite being roughly the size of the state of Colorado, Ecuador harbors nearly 7% of the entire planet's biodiversity. This small but packed gem is currently the 17th most biodiverse country on the planet, though new discoveries and rediscoveries are rolling in every year- from plants, fish, and frogs to snakes and even mammals. The unique rainforests of Ecuador are equally as imperiled and silently exploited as they are exotic, and we must act now to both preserve and ethically appreciate what lies in the Forgotten Frontier.
