The gang continues on their road trip through the seemingly endless Sonoran Desert, seeking out deeply remote and arid regions. They head to a stunningly dry and convincingly sparse mountain range nested near the Mexico border in search of the esteemed white-phase Speckled Rattlesnake; soon moving on into Southern California.
The guys meet up with fellow herper, History Channel show host, and good friend Rob Alleva to track down a snake some in the group have only seen photos of- though none of them could have foreseen what they end up running into.
The final, and arguably most incredible pit stop of the trip is an ancient volcanic lava field. Here lies the main target of their 2-week blitz, the "lava-phase Speckled Rattlesnake". Harboring a nearly black color scheme known only from this specific area due to some fast paced evolution, these jaw dropping animals sometimes prove to be almost as hard to track down as they are pleasing to the eye.
