Hunter McWaters, host of The Hunter’s Quest Podcast, heads to Kodiak Island Alaska with two buddies in his debut hunt film in search of adventure and mature Sitka Blacktail Bucks. The trio hop aboard a bush plane and fly into a high alpine lake in mid-August on a drop-camp style backcountry hunt, a unique time to experience Kodiak in all its lush green glory.
After a nice buck down on the first full day of hunting, the boys think they’re going to tag out quick. But then that famous Kodiak Island weather kicks in and the bucks disappear. Hunter and Ned stick it out through days of rain, wind and fog with almost no bucks and it looks like they’ll be headed home empty handed. But everything comes together as the weather breaks on the very last morning of their hunt and two bucks go down within 30 seconds of each other in a dramatic finish.
You don’t want to miss the raw emotion and adventure in this hunt, culminating in an epic double at the end, one of which being the 11th largest Sitka Blacktail ever taken on record on Kodiak Island.
